IS THIS A MILITARY PROGRAM?

No. The Navy League Cadet program is run independently by the Navy League of Canada, a civilian organization. Meanwhile, the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet program is run by the Department of National Defence and is supported by the Navy League of Canada. The Sea Cadet program introduces Cadets to the Royal Canadian Navy, but they are not members of the Canadian Forces and are not obligated to enroll at any point.

WHEN DO CORPS MEET?

Most corps meet once a week for compulsory training, and also offer weekend activities and fundraising events the cadets may need to participate in. Corps may also have a band or other team activities that meet regularly at another time throughout the week.

HOW IS THE NAVY LEAGUE CADET PROGRAM FUNDED?

The Navy League Cadet program is funded and operated by the Navy League of Canada, and each Branch is responsible for volunteering and fundraising for its Corps. Cadets and their families are asked to participate in fundraising initiatives throughout the year to help keep costs low and maintain the program accessible to all.

HOW IS THE ROYAL CANADIAN SEA CADET PROGRAM FUNDED?

The Royal Canadian Sea Cadet program is delivered by the Department of National Defence, which helps fund day-to-day training and operations. However, a portion of the Sea Cadet program is funded by the local Navy League Branch, which is responsible for funding extra-curricular activities, insurance programs, and in some cases the training facilities.

WHO IS THE NATIONAL PRESIDENT?

The current National President of the Navy League of Canada is Brenda Pinto, who was elected President in 2021. She is the second woman President of the League and has nearly three decades of experience in a diverse background working with the Newfoundland School Board Association. No stranger to the Navy League, Brenda has been involved in Navy League programming for more than 50 years dating back to her experience as a Navy League Wrenette (now integrated with Navy League Cadets).

WHAT IS THE COST OF EACH PROGRAM?

The cost to join the program will vary from region to region based on the activities each Corps offers and the needs of that Corps. All Corps require cadets and their families to participate in fundraising initiatives to keep costs as low as possible and to ensure the program remains accessible to all. Families with financial needs are encouraged to speak to a member of their local Branch to see what kind of financial accommodations are possible.

HOW MANY NAVY LEAGUE DIVISIONS ARE ACROSS CANADA?

There are 12 Divisions with their own respective Presidents across Canada.

HOW DO I SIGN MY CHILD UP FOR THE PROGRAM?

Simple! All you have to do is contact your local Corps expressing interest in the program. All Navy League Cadet and Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps can be discovered under the join tab on their respective sections of our website.

HOW DO I SIGN UP TO BE A VOLUNTEER?

If you would like to sign up to be a volunteer, all you have to do is contact the local corps you would like to volunteer with, which can be found under any join section of our website. The application process for volunteers consists of many checks at various levels.

The Navy League of Canada is a volunteer-led non-profit organization, and our main goal is to provide youth with skills and education to prepare them for their transition into adulthood. In addition to this, all participants in the Cadet programs will develop good citizenship, leadership, and a sense of duty. The programs we deliver have reached hundreds of communities across Canada, and our organization strives to further our positive impact on Canadian youth.
